Индекс свободного кроссинговера — показатель, выражающий суммарную длину эухроматического (см. Эухроматин) материала в хромосомах у дрозофилы, в котором свободно совершается кроссинговер. Для получения этого показателя из общей длины эухроматиновых частей всего набора политенных хромосом (см. Хромосомы гигантские), который принимают за 100%, вычитают выраженную в процентах длину хромосомных сегментов, в которых кроссинговер блокирован (напр., у гетерозигот по инверсии). Блокированным считают такой хромосомный сегмент, в котором образуется не более 1% кроссоверных гамет. Т. к. у самцов дрозофилы кроссинговер не происходит, то И. с. к. у них равен нулю, а у структурно гомозиготных самок — 100%.
